The binding on all three books are matching. Dark purple leather boards, with brass edging and clasps. The leather is surface worn and discoloured in parts. All clasps in full working order. Previous owner initials and the date 12th Dec 1850 are engraved on the clasps of each book. The metal has discoloured with age, blemishes and scratches noticeable in parts. Bindings on all three books are solid, no splitting of the spines/boards/inner hinges.
Page edges are gold gilded, with matching gauffered design. Some fading/dulling/wear present from use. Each book has red ribbon markers, worn and discoloured. Matching marbled end papers in each book. Previous owners multiple inscriptions on the front end papers of each book.
Overall condition of the contents of each book is good, all text legible. Age related page discolouration, yellowing, foxing, dotted throughout each book.
Overall a very rare antique set, quality binding reserved for the very wealthy at the time produced. An impressive set for serious collectors of fine Bibles.
We try to be as detailed as possible regarding the condition and any flaws, any descriptions of age, use and wear are pointed out so they are to be expected. This type of wear is entirely typical of antique books and is usually expected, despite the wear we consider this set to still be in remarkable condition for its age. Please If you require any further information or photographs then don't hesitate to ask.
