Imitation of Christ, The Christian Year, Set of Miniature Books, with slipcase, 1895
A wonderful miniature set in fine leather and gilt binding, with slipcase.
The set includes,
OF THE IMITATION OF CHRIST, Four Books by Thomas A kempis, Revised Translation. Printed 1895 by Henry Frowde, at the Oxford University Press, London.
&
THE CHRISTIAN YEAR, Thoughts in Verse for the Sundays and Holydays throughout the year. Printed by Henry Frowde, at the Oxford University Press, London.
Each book measures 4.5cm x 5.5cm. The slipcase measures 6cm x 5cm, 2.5cm thick. The set is small and light, weighing just 50g.
The condition is very nice. The set appears little used. Some minor indents on the leather slipcase along with faint rubbing of the covers, barely noticeable but worth mentioning. Gilt titles on spines and front boards remain bright, attractive gilt roll along the inside cover edges. No previous owner inscriptions. The rear inside covers have a purple booksellers sticker, C. E. Brumwell of Hereford. The books contents are good, slightly toned, minor creasing, gilt page edges a little scratched but remain good. One green ribbon page marker per book, in good condition. The inside of the slipcase is lined with a teal silk, in good condition.
Overall for its age we consider this a very nice set, perfectly sized for a gentlemans pocket or ladies bag, 130 years ago. A lovely collectible and quality set.
