Oxford Church Services, Common Prayer & New Testament, Boxed, Fine Binding Faux Ivory
A lovely Antique Edition with original box,
THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER & THE NEW TESTAMENT,
(Church Services)
Printed at the Oxford University Press, for The Society For Promoting Christian Knowledge, London.
Hard off white/yellow Binding, with matching clasp, and IHS Christogram pinned to front board. Gilt Edges. White Silk Moire end papers and paste downs. With original fitted leather box, silk lined.
The book measures 9cm x 13cm. The box measures 10.5cm x 14cm.
There appears to be no print/published year, however this style is typically late Victorian (1837-1901).
There are some signs of age, use and wear. The leather case is in full working order. The top flap inserts into the front panel securely. Remnants of a leather pull cord on the hinge, small stub remains. Silk lined interior a little discoloured, along with a slight musty smell. The book fits perfectly inside, offering great protection. The book itself is in good condition considering its age. The binding appears discoloured with age. Hinges strong, no splitting, spine firm. Front panel Christogram pinned securely, a little dusty deep in the symbol. The clasp is in full working order, pinned securely to both front and rear boards. Gilt page edges visibly scuffed, scratched, marked, but remain bright overall. Silk moire end papers good, a little discoloured with age. No splitting of inner hinges. Text block good, solid and complete with no loose or missing pages. Pages toned/yellowed with age. Three ribbon page markers present, but well worn. No previous owner inscriptions, highlighting or notes.
Overall an attractive edition, generally well preserved, with signs of wear typical with age.
