Attractive binding, ivory/bone imitation boards with front board sporting a colourful floral design highlighted in gilt decoration, and mother of pearl inlays. Also featuring a brass cross with mother of pearl inlay, and floral engraved brass clasp.

The book measures 7.5cm x 10cm, 2.5cm thick.

There are various signs of age, use and wear. The boards have yellowed slightly with age, although off white by design initially. Some light surface scratches and a couple of small marks noticeable on close inspection. Front board decorations remain in lovely condition, colours still bright, mother of pearl inlays in good condition and catch the light nicely. Brass cross has some of its gilt rubbed and dulled but still looks the part, and firmly holding well to the board. Brass clasp in good working order, hinge moves freely and sits in place securely. The brass has dulled and developed a patina, but floral engravings still clear. Cloth hinges are strong, but showing some slight foxing/discolouration.

End papers and paste downs have a textured sheen, discoloured and marked in places. Blue ink inscription on the first blank end page, dated 1901. Title page and frontispiece mildly foxed, tissue guard between them particularly foxed. The text block binding is firm, no loose or missing pages, toned with age but perfectly legible. No further inscriptions, highlighting or page markings. All edges gilt, slightly dulled and scratched from use but generally still good. 

Overall we think this remains a beautiful edition, still looking good for being over 120 years old. Please check all the photos for the best understanding of condition and contents.
