Each book measures 9cm x 12cm. The box measures 13cm x 13cm, 10cm deep.

There are various signs of age, use and wear. The burgundy box is cloth bound over board. There is surface wear, rubbing of the edges and corners. Shakspeare is nicely written on top of the hinged lid. The hinge is well worn, loose fitting, but remaining functional. The underside of the lid has a protruding edge that slots into the front of the box, securing the lid and front panel. When lid is lifted and folded back the front board of the box drops down revealing the books. The underside of the lid has gilded text detailing the contents of the volumes. The gilding is faded in parts but text remains legible.

The box is lined with white paper, the paper is torn at the rear, with all sides also marked and discoloured. The books sit nice and snug within the box. Both sides of the box warp out slightly at both ends of the volumes.

All volumes matching and in similar condition. Burgandy cloth boards, gilt edge lined. Gilt title, volume number, and publisher on spine. Boards hinges and spines holding well with no splitting. Gilt 'Shakspeare' top left of each front board. Some slight surface wear, lightly marked in parts. Gilt page edges, faded and lightly scratched in parts. Attractive floral gilt end papers and paste downs. Bindings on all volumes good, no loose or missing pages,. Thin India paper, commonly used in Bibles to be able to compact large volumes of work into smaller volumes. Some slight page creasing in parts, common with the India paper. Contents a little toned in parts but generally clean. Each page of text has a red line border. There are no previous owner inscriptions or annotations.

Overall a nice little set in good reading condition. A little aged in parts but generally holding together well. Nice small handy sized volumes. Box a little rough around the edges but remains functional.
