The Hunting Of The Snark, An Agony, In Eight Fits.
By Lewis Carroll, Author of "Alice's Adventures in Winderland," and "Through The looking-Glass".
With nine illustrations by Henry Holiday.
Reprinted 1928 by Macmillan and Co, London.
The book measures 10.5cm x 15.5cm.
A scarce edition bound in an unusual yellow textured cloth hardback, with an attractive gilt image of Henry Holidays Snark central to the front board, with a textured border. The spine has a gilt title along with a small embossed image of the ship beneath.
The cover has a few marks/soiling dotted about, some general rubbing across the surface, and the corners edges are bumped. Edges of the boards are rubbed along with a couple of noticable indents on the top and bottom of the rear board. Page edges are coloured yellow to match the cover, the colour faded and worn in parts. End pages and paste downs are a yellowed mild marbled effect. Previous owner nameplate glued to inside front paste down.
Majority contents has yellowed with age, some foxing dotted throughout, appears mildly grubby in parts. Page 61 has a distinctive red stain along the top margin, doesn't affect text, but has transfered slighty to the opposite blank page. All illustrations present. Overall binding remains good, boards holding well, some of the pages jut out a little but still firmly attached.
Overall a well used/loved edition with clear signs of age, use and wear. However remains in perfectly readable condition, in a scarce and attractive binding.
