With interesting history of ownership. A name plate glued to the inside cover has a purple stamped name O. J. Soames. Second Lieutenant Oliver Jack Soames died in action during WW1, aged 24 he died 1918. Also printed on the name plate is Mr. H. A. D. J. Gyles, a member of the Royal Navy serving aboard H.M.S. Actaeon. The Actaeon went on to be used as a torpedo school, and was decommissioned 1922. Beneath the name plate is a glued in image of an Indian man, and a swastika motif which meant "Good Fortune" or "Well Being" to the Hindus. Interestingly one of the previous owners have also left inked finger prints alongside these images.
Please look at all the photos for the best understanding of the contents and condition.
There are some signs of age, use and wear. The hardback cloth binding is discoloured, sunned and faded across most of the surface. Top and tail of the spine has some fraying and is well worn. Corners are bumped and edges shelf worn. Overall binding remains firm, no loose pages, though text block has developed a slant. Pages are a little misaligned, some edges rough edged. Foxing and discolouration of the pages dotted throughout, however all text remains legible.
Overall remains in good reading condition, given its previous ownership the signs of use and wear are understandable. A fascinating book full of interesting information about India, with added interest around the previous owners.
