The first edition with the exceptionally scarce L'envoi leaf. During publication, Kingsley had second thoughts regarding the inclusion of the poem, and had the leaf removed, but not before approximately two hundred copies of the book had been printed.
The book measures 16cm x 20.5cm.
Please check all photographs for a good understanding of the condition.
There are signs of age, use and wear. The cover is not the original, it is a basic cloth rebind. Gilt title and date on the spine. Some shelf wear, but remains good. Binding firm, hinges good. Pencil writing on first end paper noting the edition. Half title page present. Pages are grubby and foxed throughout. All pages and illustrations accounted for. Final two leaves have some loss of the outer margin lower edge/corner, not affecting text.
Overall remains in acceptable reading condition. Clear signs of age and use. Basic rebind, hiding a scarce contents.
