Wesley’s Hymns, Antique Methodist Hymn Book, Miniature Wallet Style Binding
£300.00 inc. tax
Rare miniature wallet style edition,
WESLEY’S HYMNS.
Hymns for the use of the people called Methodists, by The Rev. John Wesley.
No print year on the title page, however the Preface is dated 1779, and a previous owner inscription at the back of the book is dated 1837. So somewhere between those dates is the print year.
Frontispiece portrait of Rev. John Wesley.
Printed for and sold by T. Blanshard, London.
The book is miniature, measuring just 7cm x 5cm, 3cm thick.
There are some signs of age, use and wear. The maroon coloured morocco leather binding is well worn from age and use, but holding firm. There is surface wear, scratches, and creasing from use. The wallet style binding opens up well, and the strap tucks into its loop housing keeping it closed. Please check all the photos for the best understanding of the cover style and condition. The cover is holding well to the text block, exterior and interior hinges good, firm solid binding. Both Paste-downs visually cracked in the gutter but holding well. Both front and rear end pages have previous owner ink inscriptions, rear blank pages in particular are pretty much filled with almost illegible inscriptions.
There is some age/use related page discolouration/foxing dotted throughout, mainly yellowing. All text legible. No loose or missing pages. Text block has curved out slightly from use. Page edges are gold gilded but significantly faded.
Overall the book remains in good reading condition, with as described clear signs of age, use and wear. A scarce early miniature edition, with interesting unusual binding.
If you require any further information then please don't hesitate to ask. Please study all photos carefully as these give the best example of overall condition. Additional photos available upon request.
